“…be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart..Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” -Rainer Maria Rilke

FAQs

What can I expect from therapy?

Therapy has no one-size-fits-all approach; duration, frequency, and direction are based on each client’s needs. However, in therapy you can expect to collaborate in defining your goals, assess your progress and satisfaction, and have your privacy upheld. It is important for clients to understand that every therapist has the obligation to break confidentiality if someone’s safety is at risk. I hope you will use therapy as a place to practice communication (you really can tell your therapist anything!), self-advocacy, and letting yourself be human.

Do I need to prepare for the first session?

To get the most out of our time, I ask that you complete the online paperwork, reflect a little on what you want to get out of therapy, and bring any remaining questions you might have. In our first session together, my goal is to just listen and get to know you. I will honor your pace and respect any areas you don’t feel ready to explore or share about yet. I ask that you also come prepared to complete a payment at the end of our time. Most importantly, your job is to show up as yourself.. so there’s really no wrong way for you to do that!

Do you accept insurance?

I believe in a non-pathologizing approach to therapy and do not provide diagnosing services at this time. Because of this, I do not work with insurance companies but I will happily provide a receipt for you to submit to your insurance if you are seeking reimbursement. If you have Tricare or Medicaid insurance, I ask that you let me know because both of these insurances can affect your pricing and eligibility to work with me, even as a self-paying client. I am also glad to support you with referrals for diagnoses and medication if it is supportive for your healing.

What do you charge?

My current rate is set at $140/60 minute sessions and $210/90 minute sessions. I understand finances are a substantial factor for many people in deciding whether to attend therapy, and I reserve a small number of reduced-cost sessions for this reason. If finances are tight for you, please feel free to inquire if I have any reduced-cost spaces available.

Are you a christian counselor?

Although I have a personal Christian background, I am not a Christian counselor. For some people, spirituality plays a big role in their healing, while, for others, it is a source of hurt. For this reason, I respect clients’ right to dictate how they want spirituality or religion to be part of their counseling, if at all.

Do you work with teens or children?

At this time, I work with adults ages 18 years and older but can recommend trusted referrals who work with teens and kids upon request.

Do you write EMotional support aNimal letters?

I do not offer ESA letters for clients, but I can provide referrals who offer this service upon request.

Can i schedule an appointment for someone else?

Because I work exclusively with adults, I can only schedule with clients who I hear from directly. I know that getting the therapy process started can be tough and nerve-wracking; I also believe it is an empowering way to demonstrate that we are ready to take responsibility for our own lives and healing. I have found that people who are open-hearted enough to reach out to a therapist when they’re ready tend to have better outcomes in their treatment.

How long does therapy last & how often should i come?

Duration and frequency of therapy depend on each person’s therapeutic goals and level of need. Most clients I see who are newer to therapy or newer to working with me start off coming weekly or biweekly, and may choose to transition to monthly or occasional check-ins as they stabilize in their progress. Clients with a higher level of need and the financial capacity may attend sessions more than once a week. Many of my clients work with me over a period of several years, while I also have many clients who attend therapy with me on-and-off to meet the season of life they are in. I am intentional about discussing goals and progress with my clients periodically so that clients can continually create pace of therapy that supports their growth in an optimal way.

What if we’re not a good fit?

Finding a therapist who feels like a good fit is paramount for your therapy to be effective. My highest priority is making sure you are getting what you need out of therapy. If you feel that we aren’t a good fit, please let me know and I will do my absolute best to help you find someone who is.

What happens if I need to cancel my session?

No problem! Life happens. I ask that you give me 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. If you are unable to do so, I provide a one-time fee waive that you can apply at your choosing. After your fee waive has been used, you will be charged for any cancellations that are less than 24 hours before our scheduled session. If we are able to reschedule within the same week, I do not consider that a cancellation. My policy is rooted in the belief that our time together is sacred and worth honoring because it is ultimately an investment in yourself!
